Ackee and saltfish with breadfriut
Ackee is the national fruit of Jamaica and Ackee and Saltfish is the national dish. So, of course, I had to make this my blog would be incomplete without this national dish. This dish has many flavors the most common one is a salty flavor. This dish is one that can be eaten at any time of day it's very versatile. This dish takes preparation from the night before. To begin I soak my salt fish overnight in some water, this helps to reduce all the salt that is in the fish. Once its time to start cooking, I pour the water off the fish that was soaking overnight and add it to my dutch pot that is halfway filled with fresh water. I boil the fish for fifteen minutes then shut off the fire and begin to attend to my ackee. I clean and remove the black seed out of the ackee wash it then also set that to the side. I proceed to chop up one small onion (because I really love onions) one small tomato and heat up two tablespoons of oil in my frying pan. Once the oil is hot I pour in my onions and tomatoes and add 1 tsp of black pepper I sautee all these ingredients together for four minutes. After five minutes I add my salt fish and ackee and allow that to cook for 10 minutes on low heat. The breadfruit in the photo was sent from my grandmother in Jamaica so I didn't have to cook them she did it for me and I just warmed it up.
